Uro-Oncology: This is an endoscopic surgery of the urinary tract performed with the help of an endoscopic device used to view the interior of an organ or a cavity.
Reconstructive Urology: It is usually performed in case of urinary tract injuries, congenital deformities, cancer treatments etc.
Laparoscopy: Laparoscopic techniques involve making small incisions (1 cm or less) for treating benign conditoons like swelling in the kidneys and cancerous conditions in the kidney, bladder or the prostate. It is also known as keyhole surgery. Kingsway Hospital is one of the few hospitals in the count an advanced form of laparoscopic surgery, known as the 3D Laparoscopy.
3D laparoscopy offers doctors a complete, 3-dimensional view of the affected part. It is an improvement over traditional laparoscopy as it involves reduced blood loss, smaller incisions and hence, faster rate of recovery.
Kidney Stones, also known as Renal Calculi, are solid deposits of crystals, usually composed of calcium oxalate which typically occur in kidneys, but can also develop in other parts of the urinary tract such as the bladder, urethra and the ureter. While drinking adequate amounts of water or taking certain medications such as pain-relievers, diuretics and alpha-blocker drugs break down the smaller stones, stones which are larger in size require specialized medical interventions.
The common procedures to treat kidney stones are:
Lithotripsy: Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy uses sound waves to create strong vibrations that can break up large stones into smaller pieces which can then be easily expelled from the body. The patient may be sedated before the procedure begins, which can last for about an hour.
Ureteroscopy: This procedure is performed when the stone is located close to the bladder. The surgeon inserts a thin tube through the urinary tract and breaks up the stones. The fragments are then removed through the tube.
Surgery: A surgical procedure called percutaneous nephrolithotomy, by which kidney stones are removed through a small incision in the person’s back may be performed if the lithotripsy was unsuccessful.
Kingsway Hospital is one of the premier kidney hospitals in India equipped with skilled faculty and the latest facilities needed to treat the entire spectrum of kidney diseases, including:
Chronic Kidney Disease: This condition involves a permanent and an irreversible damage to the kidneys which happens over a period of time. This aggravates the severity of blood pressure, anemia and bone disease. Bladder Cancer:A type of urinary tract cancer originating in the bladder, an organ located in the pelvic area that stores urine before it is expelled from the body.
Urinary Incontinence: This is defined an involuntary passage of urine, commonly occurring in elderly people.
Impotence: This is chLaparoscopyaracterized by the inability of a man to achieve and maintain an erection that is sufficient for satisfactory sexual intercourse.
KIDNEY TRANSPLANTATION
The kidneys are vital for purifying the blood. It does this by filtering out the waste products from the blood before converting it to urine. Kidney Transplantation is a treatment of the last resort, resorted to when the existing kidneys can no longer function properly.
